The requirement, at a high level is for an agile and experienced

Data Scientist/Developer to focus on:

  • Creating Machine Learning/deep learning and Artificial Intelligence applications utilizing open-source tools for design and development
  • Contributing to the development of real-time analytics with a highly hands-on role requiring innovative design and comprehensive Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence solutions to complex problems.

The functions performed in the role are crucial to meeting critical deliverables within the ICT Product Architecture Branch and across the CIO Group.

Key skills/attributes required are:

  • 10 years’ minimum work experience with relevant technologies and with designing, implementing, administering, and supporting build and delivery or machine learning systems
  • Proven experience in Data Science roles with a focus on deep learning/ machine learning tools using python and java.
  • You will require excellent presentation skills, able to work in small teams facing into business stakeholders.
  • You will need to be a quick learner, and display an intellectual curiosity.
  • Complex systems integration and/or use of Microsoft/Google AI capabilities also highly regarded
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced and collaborative / agile Environment
  • Comfortable working within teams exchanging ideas and can convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Passionate about machine learning, data structures, distributed computing and artificial intelligence.

The project is aiming to deliver an Artificial Intelligence that can learn about various aspects of the organisation and be able to assist in delivering better business outcomes.

The duties the resource will be required to perform include:

  • Development & implementation of the latest open-source,
  • Analytics, Machine Learning & AI Technology.
  • Creating machine learning products using open sourced tools like Tensorflow, H2O etc.
  • Problem solving across a variety of different data-sets and industries.

Application and commercialisation of machine learning outcomes, helping translate data-sets into use cases that add true business value.


Mandatory Criteria:

  • Demonstrated high level experience as a Data Scientist/Developer in large and complex, enterprise environments (preferably with Federal Government organisations).
  • Demonstrated strong ability to build Natural language processing / Deep neural networks and other forms of Machine Learning / Artificial Neural Networks.

Weighted Criteria

  • Proven technical / development skills in Python (or equivalent Machine Learning programming language).
  • Demonstrated experience working within teams exchanging ideas and can convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated exceptional academic background, ideally in machine learning technology fields.
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
